YouMaker
An audiovisual ICMAB outreach project presenting remarkable materials and showing how they are made in the laboratory.
What is YouMaker?
YouMaker showcases some of ICMAB’s most characteristic and surprising materials and reveals the laboratory processes used to make them.
The project produced a series of ten materials science videos. Each episode brings together one ICMAB researcher and one external science communicator working in a different area or medium. An introductory video presents the series and invites audiences to discover how science is made at ICMAB.
Partners and funding
YouMaker was developed with organisations that contributed editorial reach, project management and audiovisual production. The project was supported through the collaboration of FECYT – Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación and the ICMAB Severo Ochoa Excellence project.

Presentation of the project
Anna May Masnou presented “YouMaker: this is how we make science” at the VI Annual Nanodivulgation Meeting, held in Sevilla on 4 November 2021. The event was organised by the Institute of Materials Science of Sevilla (ICMS) at the Scientific Research Center Isla De La Cartuja (CIC Cartuja).
The project was also presented at CosmoCaixa Barcelona during the European Researchers’ Night, where visitors were asked what they expected from materials science and how it could shape the future.
Finally, Lydia Gallego, from the CSIC Delegation in Catalunya, presented the project at the CSIC Science Culture Meeting in Madrid on 13–14 June 2022.
