The Health and Safety Committee oversees safety at ICMAB and proposes the measures needed to support a safe, compliant research environment.

Institutional oversight for a safe research environment

The committee was formed on 1 June 1990 at the instigation of the Director and with the consent of the Institute’s governing body. Its role is to control safety matters at ICMAB and to propose to Direction and Management the measures required to fulfil the rules governing these matters.

The body is also referred to in the former layout as the Health and Safety Committee. It includes one member representing each department, meets at least once a year and submits a report to the governing body.

How the Committee works

The Committee combines institute-wide oversight, proposals for compliance measures and formal reporting to the governing body.

Safety oversight

Monitor safety matters across the Institute and identify issues that require institutional action.

Measures and compliance

Propose to Direction and Management the measures needed to comply with the rules governing health and safety.

Institutional accountability

Meet at least once a year and submit a report to the Institute’s governing body.

Permanent Technical Committee

Created in 2019, the Permanent Technical Committee complements the full Health and Safety Committee by resolving daily prevention issues. It meets more frequently and remains in direct contact with Direction and Management.

This technical group supports continuity between the Committee’s formal oversight and the prevention matters that require more immediate coordination.

Address practical prevention matters that arise in the Institute’s day-to-day activity.

More frequent coordination

Meet more frequently than the full Health and Safety Committee when prevention issues require attention.
